PART ONE – Beginners Introduction to Reflexology

These Modules are designed to give students a grounding in Reflexology so that all of the basics are covered. Additionally these areas are great for developing an enthusiasm for the subject and act as a terrific platform from which to move onto the next stage.

  • Instruction in Practical Work - how to give a treatment – hand holds – streamlining movements – understanding reflex points.
  • The History of Reflexology - the origins; how reflexology came to the UK. The mother of Reflexology Eunice Ingham – the family tree of trainers originating from the USA and connected to the Association of Reflexologists
  • Contra indications and their implications - what conditions to be aware of and which situations (if any) it is not a good idea to give Reflexology.
  • Listening/Communication Skills - the art of listening, proactive questions, what is not being said – role play and simulation.
  • Voluntary and Support Systems - understanding when to refer clients to support organisations with specialist advice.
  • Reflexology Charts - Knowledge and Understanding and how to identify areas of the body.

Students receive a Beginners Certificate on completion.

PART TWO – Intermediate stage

Students now spend time concentrating on the more technical aspects of Reflexology. Learning more detailed anatomical information whilst continuing to develop skills and practical knowledge.

  • Integrated Anatomy and Physiology - application of basic knowledge to the relevant reflexes and area in the feet.
  • The Philosophy of Complementary Medicine and allopathic medicine – Current Theories and Practice. An overall concept of how therapists work with orthodox methods – maintaining a healthy lifestyle.
  • Common Conditions and related reflex areas - application of specialist knowledge to well known presenting chronic and acute phases of illness.
  • Personal and Professional Development - a look at what makes us and our clients tick – allocation of recreational activities integrated into our busy lifestyles.
  • The Holistic Approach - how we as practitioners treat our clients as a whole person not just bits of disease!
  • Structure, disorders and conditions of the Feet - A detailed study.
  • A detailed study in what to look for and how to deal with problems that may arise.

PART THREE - Professional Development and growth as a Practitioner

This section of modules sets students on the road to being recognised as a Professional Reflexology Practitioner.

  • Supervised Clinical Experience – 5 recorded clinic sessions with outside clients.
  • Compilation of Case Studies/Recorded Treatments - supervision of case study work and constructive analysis.
  • Basic Principles of Diet and Nutrition - knowledge of healthy eating patterns, research into special diets
  • Appreciation of complementary and alternative therapies & GP referrals.
  • Introduction to Hand Reflexology basic knowledge and techniques.
  • The Association Code of Practice and Ethics - belonging to an accredited body: The Practitioner and the Law.
  • Business Management – accounting methods, business plan, Advertising and Marketing strategies – specialist advice.
